I just looked it up on google adwords, the keyword “anxiety” gets over 6 million searches per month on the world-wide web. People are clearly trying to find out how to stop anxiety attacks. With the economy the way it is, it’s no wonder. The outlook is bleak.
But even though there seems to be a dark cloud over our lives, I want to tell you that sunshine does come through. For me, acupuncture has been one of the bright spots lately.
Acupuncture is a constantly shifting form of alternative medicine. I have been getting acupuncture for a number of years now, and I’d like to share some tips that seem to apply in a dynamic field.
- Try getting acupuncture at home. Clearly this is not for everyone, but if you have a large, relaxing space where you can light some candles or where the natural light is calming, then it could provide the perfect energy for renewal and healing. My bedroom is just such the place in my home.
- Branch out. I mean, it might be scary getting pulses of electricity shot through you, but it can seriously add to the experience. Once, while my acupuncturist burned moxa at the ends of some of the needles, I entered an amazingly blissful state. All from a subtle cue from the scents around me. There are many ways by which your acupuncturist can add value to his or her services. Try them out, I guarantee you won’t regret it.
- Visualize change in energy flow within your body. Not even modern allopathic doctors argue that energy flows from place to place within you. Yes it is difficult to find patterns that apply to more than just one individual, but you are the authority on your body in this case. Imagine the buzz or hum of electricity coursing through your neurons. Now, try to imagine how super-highways of this electric flow can easily be disrupted; by bad posture, by a traumatic injury, by headaches, stress and anxiety. Your job is to visualize where this energy flow is being slowed, choked, and blocked. With the help of the stimulating, hair-thin needles of an acupuncturist AND your meditative influence of your own mind (the command central for energy flow) you can truly do wonders for your health, and well-being.
These are some ways I’ve been able to make a good thing in my life even better. Perhaps you have your own ways of letting sunshine through the otherwise cloudy days? In any event, I wish you well.
