The work landscape has changed. Geometric fortresses of cardboard and boxing tape have sprung up in every room, the paintings on the wall have all put on paper dressings. We are moving!
Having made several major international moves in the past, I like to consider myself an expert on methods of choosing a moving company and packing my belongings. And, yet fears keep cropping up in my mind:
- Will the moving company up it’s charges on moving day because of ‘unforseen’ difficulties?
- Will any of my beautiful pieces of art work be damaged by negligence?
- Will the fact that the elevator is still out of order turn this into a nightmare beyond nightmares?
It is times like these I thank goodness that I am a coach, and I can remind myself that I need to step back, breathe, and let go. I need to overcome fear because that’s what you do to move on and be productive.
I also need to make sure I’m accountable for the goals I have set for myself. I’m working hard, managing my business in the midst of all this chaos. Trying not to overreach. So far, it has been going well.
Wind is sustained in my sails and I cruise on fearlessly into bluer waters.
For anyone out there in the same boat as me, I found this easy to read article on the topic of taking some of the stress out of moving: Move It! Ten Tips to Make Moving a Success. I hope it may be of some help. Instead of color coding, I just divided the floor plan of our new place into zones and designated each box with a zone number.
So if any of this cheery rhetoric gets your juices going for a move…..have at it. Adventures are to be had by the dozen. More on this after I get over the exhaustion!
Be Fearless: It gets you a long way…….
