One of the greatest fears of human-kind must be the fear of change. The changing environment – global climate change – is probably the greatest challenge we are currently facing. The essence of that challenge is that our homes and the environments which we have been accustomed to are changing – more rapidly than we know.
Frankly, whatever is in store for humanity, it will be profound. Let us pray that it will happen slowly enough for us to keep up, especially with say, the rising of the oceans.
But there is an upshot in all this. We humans have an incredible capacity for adapting to change. You can get a powerful sense of this fact by taking a look at one of the proposed maps of early human migration.
No matter what, whether it’s hopping from continent to continent, or dealing with dramatic changes in our weather and perhaps our climate systems, we humans will continue to preserver and find success at what we do best – cope.
Moving from one location to another on the island of Manhattan is admittedly a minor exercise in adaptability. But, as a fearless boomer who lives in a six floor walk-up, I’m not afraid to say that it’s no simple feat either
My heart goes out to those who need help coping with the changes in their lives. Be powerful, be strong, you might be surprised, but in the face of change, it’s what humans do best.
