Recession Blues?
This week I wanted to communicate the idea that Fear is Not An Option. The media, the government, each other, we all perpetuate this climate of fear and panic by what we say, and what we think. It is epidemic at this point in our country’s history. The Reds may no longer be hiding under the bed; there may be no WMD’s stored in our closets, but there sure is a lot of hyperbole hanging out in the attic.
Yes, many people are feeling the sting of the financial collapse around us, but is the sky really falling, or is Chicken Little bumping up against the over-done elements. I’m reading a book right now called The Science of Fear by Daniel Gardener and he takes great pains to show us how all the statistics around fear are grossly exaggerated for the sake of a good story.
So this week, I want to ask you this. What good stories are you perpetuating in your head about how dire things are? What negativism is lurking in the corners of your otherwise sane mind? What can you do to clean out the attic of your negative thinking and replace it with a coat of fresh paint that will clear away the cobwebs of insecurities and doubts, and replace it with the possibilities of a bright new future? We have all struggled with hard times before. We will no doubt do so again. But the interesting thing to remember is this. We all get past it. It will change. It’s the only thing we can guarantee.
So go forth and conquer. Change the negatives to a positive and go order my new book The Fearless Factor: Thriving Beyond the Jungle of Life at www.fearlessfifties.com
It’s time for a change.
