Are You Living Up to Your Potential?
Here in Bali I meet a lot of people who are looking for something. It is a land that attracts spiritual seekers and people who feel a need to escape the Western world.
In the land of temples, it is not hard to understand why there should be an attraction, but it is more than that. Bali inspires.
In a land where mythology and magic seem to proliferate, it is easy to get caught up in the festivals and adoration of the gods.
In the pantheon of Hindu gods, Hanuman is the monkey god. He is famous not only for his wisdom, but for the tricks he plays on people. Hanuman is the avatar of Lord Shiva, the all powerful one, and of course, like any Hindu tale, it is long and complicated. At root, the tale of Hanuman is that within each one of us is unlimited potential.
In Ubud
, where I live, there is Hanuman Road, a collection of shops, restaurants and guest houses. At the end of Hanuman is Monkey Forest Road. Within Monkey Forest lives a troop of monkeys who are not shy about taking your belongings if you let them. Of course, they always prefer a bunch of bananas and the vendors outside the forest are happy to sell you some.
But what does this have to do with living up to your potential?
Not a lot. But here is something to consider.
When we go traveling we explore different cultures, we explore different foods and ways of living. It is a time when we open ourselves up to possibilities. We step outside our safety zone and take more risks.
So in your every day existence, where can you create the same experience? What does it take for you to consider living up to your potential?
