Is It All About The Money?
We all want more money, but we don’t always know how to get it, and if we do, we’re not always willing to do what it takes to take it all the way to the bank. The psychological issues surrounding money are complex.
You may feel that money or a lack of it determines who you are. But your worth as a person has nothing to do with how much money you have. Once you truly believe this, and money is no longer connected to your sense of self-worth, you open up the psychological barriers that were keeping you from wisely handling the money you do have and limiting your ability to make more.
Many times we are afraid of money. Not enough/don’t know how to make it/what to do with it. It can lead to fights and arguments, control issues, power issues, and feelings of inadequacy. But what is money?
Consider the following:
- Money is Energy!
- Those that think govern those who labor
- You must give more than you getting
- Make sure what you are doing is NOT about the money
- Money always comes from other people
- There is more than enough to go around
Money is energy. It’s simple. It buys and brings ‘stuff’ into your life.
Money is not about how much is in the bank, but what the money can bring you. Houses, cars, a good lifestyle, a great education for your children, the luxury of going where you want, when you want, and getting there in as much comfort as possible. Nice clothes, expert services, lots of toys! This is what money does for you.
How much you have or how little is a function of how willing you are to work for it, how creative you can be to bring it to you, and how connected you are to people so that you can attract the clients and customers you need.
There are several ways to get money.
- You labor for it – time = money
- You use what you’ve got already to turn it into something more
- that produces revenue
- You inherit it
- People want to give you it because you deserve it
Most people in the world follow the first one. We labor for our money by working for other people, who are generally making more than we are.
The second one is using your skills, experience and talent and turning it into something that someone else wants. You are usually your own boss in this situation. You learn how to capitalize on what others need and what you have to offer.
The third one is to inherit the money. In which case it’s the sweat of others that makes you the beneficiary.
The fourth one is you are doing something so great, people just want to give you money. You receive grants, foundations, awards that give you enough to live on, and sometimes live well.
So where are you in this equation, and is this how you want to make your money?
Those that think govern those who labor. See point number two above. Are you the boss? Are you using your brainpower over your manpower?
Here’s another conundrum. Make sure what you are doing is NOT about the money
When it comes down to being all about the money –
- how much is in the bank,
- how much can you get from someone,
- what status symbols can you derive from your money
- the only value dollars have is in how you can use them to help other people. It’s an exchange of energy, and an exchange of value.
We live our best lives when we can feel we are doing something worthwhile with our time and our resources.
When we make it about someone else, there is a satisfaction in living. We feel fulfilled because we know it’s more than the money in the bank, it’s the service or products we are delivering that add something to someone else’s life. That’s where the satisfaction comes from.
Money always comes from other people
Sad to say, but money does no grow on trees, otherwise we’d all be wealthy. Money is an exchange of value – I give you something, you pay me for it. Whether it is labor, goods or services, there is always a recipient.
There is more than enough to go around
You may see thousands of examples in the world of poverty, and believe the world is impoverished, but the truth of the matter is, less than 1% of the world’s total economy is held by only a select few. It’s not that there isn’t enough to go around, it’s that the distribution is wrong.
So next time you think there isn’t enough, think again. The universe is not made from limitation. How you choose to ask for what you want, how you choose to take action towards what you want, is what makes the difference between wealth and poverty. You can choose how wealthy you want to be. What a radical thought that is!
