Making sure you have time to do what you want to do is a must in any business, but many of us get swallowed up in the details, easily distracted by the noise of too many things to do. Making a check-list of daily events is the first things to keep you on track.
The following is based on the book ‘The Power of Less’ by Leo Babauta
1. Each morning, check your calendar and make sure you have created some ‘do not disturb time’. This is your important creativity moments.
2. Create a list of the three most important tasks for the day. You will be able to finish them if you keep it targeted. Brian Tracy, time management expert says these are the frogs we must eat in the morning before we do anything else. Do these things FIRST.
3. Do not multi-task! Do only one thing at a time. It takes your brain several seconds to concentrate again once you shift focus.
4. If you have an inbox, keep it flowing through. Empty it each day.
5. Check your email only twice a day. Try to keep your messages short.
6. Exercise at least 15 minutes a day, even if it’s just to walk upstairs instead of taking the escalator or the elevator.
7. Eat more fruits and vegetables. A wise man once told me nothing grows on a Twinkie!
8. Say NO more often. People will willingly hand you things to do unless you set boundaries.
9. Declutter your desk every day. Don’t let papers stack up with nowhere to go.
10. Answer the phone or check your voice messages only at designated times each day.
11. Read something that inspires you each day to be more than you are now.
12. Give yourself some well-deserved rest each day. 18 hour work days are not good for the soul.

Thanks for the list. As a writer with ADD, I need specific, one-liner guides. I’ll keep this by my desk – as long as I remember to get it off the printer!
